Finishing Strong

Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard about ‘finishing strong’ from two influential figures in my life. I think it’s a tactful approach to start now to refocus efforts towards finishing strong. That way we can invest the coming weeks to months in clear cut steps that will bring about maximum achievement; the kind that will be reason enough to gather our loved ones together to celebrate, or to just sit in quietness and be grateful. Are you considering jumping on this FS wagon? Then here’s a thought to help you on your way: Decide on the one or two things that would make a remarkably fulfilling difference in your life if you accomplished...

Self Discipline

Here’s my definition of self discipline – You do what you know you should do because it is the right thing to do if you are to achieve your goal. I think self discipline would be difficult to develop if there was nothing to look forward to. There has to be a cause, a reason, a driver, a motivation. I have found that when the strength of one’s purpose begins to diminish or you begin to lose sight of it, it becomes increasingly difficult to stay committed to the cause and you find that the tendency for lapses increases. I believe that we need discipline now and everyday. If you disagree, cast your mind back...

Today

I showed up at the gym after a little over a month of no workout. The treadmill was my equipment of choice so I stayed on it for about 30 minutes although the  gym instructor had warned against doing too much on my first day back. Now, only a few hours later, my whole body is in pain and I am totally weak. Why did I do this to myself? Oh! If only I could turn back the hands of time. Sometimes because of how much pleasure we derive at the moment, we go on doing things that may have unpleasant consequences in the future. Some results are short term and may present you...

First Impressions

The carpenter arrived with the pieces that were to be put together to make the beds. Nathan perceived the recently coated wood from an adjoining room and blurted out, ‘what’s that awful smell?’ I immediately thought ‘o oh… where are they going to sleep this night?’ He followed the scent to his room where he found the beautiful bed. Next thing he said was ‘Wow! This is so beautiful. I love it, I love it. I like our new bed and it smells…’ he bent to sniff it, ‘...

My First Aid Box

I had a cute first aid box sometime back. It was white with a red cross and it had a little bit of all you should have in a first aid box. Well, time passed and it emptied out. So I decided to refill it because I wanted to be prepared in the event that someone got hurt. I walked into a pharmacy close to my house and bought all the supplies. By the time I was done, I realized my cute box wouldn’t hold everything, so I bought a much larger box. This one’s green with a white cross on it. Aesthetics aside, my new first aid supply has come in handy –...

All things new

I'm wondering where to start from. Everything is so different around me. New city, new home, new writing position. At the moment, my dining table seems to be a good place, but I am considering a certain corner in my new room. I think the newness of everything brings its own excitement. Tomorrow I’ll resume my new assignment and I will be the new member in an existing team – the new kid on the block. LOL. I wonder how that will be. So many things are changing around me but I’m glad I still have my family and my God. At this time in my life, I rejoice in the fact that my...

6th Sense

On the average day, I am a pros and cons superstar. I delight in checking out, weighing, and evaluating options so that I can eventually make an informed decision. This works on most occasions, however, there are times when there’s more to it than you can naturally sense. Then you need a sixth sense to help you judge accurately. I’ve also come to realize that one of the greatest adversaries of this pros and cons process is fear; fear in the heart of the person who needs to do the evaluation. Fear just shuts down the whole process and before you know it, you’re facing the consequences of a bad decision you made...

VICTORIOUS

Without warning, everything changed for Daniel, his cousins and friends. They were young; they had their whole future ahead of them and they often dreamed of occupying positions of influence and making a mark when their time came. This was a natural expectation for him and the other descendants of King Hezekiah. But without warning, everything changed and they went from being royalty in their homeland to being slaves in Babylon; all because of a wrong move King Hezekiah made years before. Daniel could have spent his days in Babylon having pity parties, letting everyone know he used to be royalty, and finishing each session with a recap of how King Hezekiah brought...
