Life lessons

Edge of the Frame

While on holiday at my sister's home, my daughter found a couple of unpaintedHello Kitty pictures and decided to have a go at adding color to the black and white prints. She did her thing and a few days before we returned to our base she came to present her finished work to everyone. She was super proud of her own accomplishment. I was proud too.    Aunty Patty thought it would be a good idea to save the pictures and use them in the children's room so Anna could have that feeling of fulfillment each time she saw her work on display. I packed them nicely in my suitcase and brought them home, then one...

Find Peace

If you ever find yourself feeling weighed down, disappointed by how slow your pace in life seems...

Dream Bigger

While organizing the files on my system, I happened upon a document I called 'Dreams - What I'm believing for'. I opened it to see what I had written. The column headings were: What - the item/my desire The Promise - scriptures to encourage me  on the subject Description/details - the finer details of what I wanted Potential Challenges - what I thought could be show stoppers / obstacles Strategy for achievement - including the suggestions for how to address the potential challenges Target date Date accomplished I totally forgot I had prepared this document though I had the key points outlined in my journal so I could pay attention to them. I read through and realized that from the...

Think BIG

Yes! You made it to 2016. I rejoice with you because you overcame all the challenges life threw at you in the past year and you’re here. You’re still standing. Excellent! So now that you’re here, what next? I discovered a presentation app on my phone called Keynote so I decided to put my skills to use but this time for the purpose of preparing my personal plan for the year. I have a slide for each area of my life where I would like to see more progress – family, music (here's a link to my album), my blog, work, projects and so on. I’ve outlined the major things to strive for and...

THANK YOU

Here's my chance to say THANK YOU to you for reading my weekly posts. It would be so unfulfilling to keep writing when no one's reading. I can't imagine a chef preparing delicious meals day after day with no one to eat them. I hope you enjoyed most of 2015 and that you have bright and beautiful dreams for 2016. I hope also that after all your hard work, you've created some room for rest and recreation during this holiday season. As the year comes to an end, I wish you joy, peace and fulfillment. May the new year greet you with hope and with passion for everything good that you are to accomplish. Happy New...

Letting Go

It was the beginning of the holiday season. My sister and I decided to go with our families to see the colourful Christmas decorations Zenith Bank so graciously put up. There was excitement in the air as we walked along. We soon reached a portion of the side walk that had undergone some degradation and I held my daughter’s hand to guide her safely through. I didn’t want her to hurt her foot or step into the puddle of water but she didn’t know this so she pulled away from me and rushed forward. I called her back and explained why I had to hold her hand and my beloved little princess said...

Say Hello

While at an event, a gentleman walked up to me and began to tell me about how he was trying to extend the borders of his business. He needed information about Calabar and had some difficulty finding someone who knew the city well enough to help him. I told him I had read that the average number of acquaintances separating any two people no matter who they are is four, and encouraged him to keep asking till he got the right links to the person with his solution. We parted ways and I went on to speak with another gentleman who mentioned he was going home for Christmas. I asked where home was,...

Watch & Learn

I thought I heard a truck approach but by the time the large drops began to drum on my roof, I realized it was a heavy downpour; heavy and abrupt. I say so because in about five minutes from the time it started, this amazing rainfall ended. I mean it just stopped. It was so fast, you couldn't have made it out in time to save your clothes if you had them spread outside to dry, or to position your drums if you rely on the rainfall for potable water. I hear showers like this happen every now and then in this pleasant city called Eket, and as this was my first experience,...

Pass It On

My son came back into the house with a sad look on his face. The chain of his bicycle had come off and he came to get help. He’s not yet outgrown the idea that his dad and I can fix everything and since I was the “engineer” on duty, I had to fix his bike. I made a quick trip down memory lane and stopped at the spot where I was an adventurous kid who had a bike. I recalled the know-how for solving chain problems and returned to work on my son’s bike. In a few minutes, I was done. Then I let him inflate his tyres to the point his...
