Merry Christmas

It's so much fun spending Christmas with family; even better when you merge families. That's exactly what we did. My entire immediate family travelled over streams, rivers and forests to be with my Sister and her family. The kids are thrilled. Anna said, 'this is the first Christmas we're spending with Pippa'. She even wanted both families to go to Church together so she wouldn't be away from her cousin, whom she also calls sister or sister-cousin, for even a second. My sister, Aunty Patty, gave me one important assignment - the Christmas turkey. I've done this before so after a quick refresher on YouTube, I was good to go. One new trick I...

Count Your Blessings

Hey! We're in December! I'm counting down to the end of 2016. In fact, I have a table with major activities marked for most days. You can call it my last attempt at getting some things done this year or my preliminary efforts towards a more fulfilling 2017. It's easy to think about goals, achievements and plans in this season but it's also important to remember to take a timeout to count your blessings - from the super amazing events to the pretty much everyday stuff that we tend to take for granted. Waking up in the morning and getting out of bed by yourself, having your body function optimally, not losing your...

Colorful Caterpillar

On a dull Monday evening, as I walked towards my house, I saw this beautiful caterpillar. I haven't seen anything like this before. I had to stop to take a picture and make a video and I'm sharing this with you. [caption width="270" id="attachment_1306" align="aligncenter"] Colorful Caterpillar in Eket[/caption] Nathan says it walks like it's dancing and shaking its bum. I think it's just a happy creature.  [wpvideo g3yh7BM0] What a beautiful butterfly this caterpillar will be. Maybe that's why it's so happy. It has an idea of its future. ...

Keep dreaming

Yesterday I addressed a group of women at the City of David, Eket. It was my first official speaking engagement and I totally enjoyed discussing the topic 'The Career Woman' with them. I took time to prepare and tried to stick to my script as much as possible. Every now and then I felt the need to veer off and discuss something I didn't plan to and I found out that those points were very useful. I didn't realize how much I knew about the subject until this event. It's amazing how good a teacher experience is. I'm grateful for these 10+ years of being a career woman. The Lord has been good...

Success Strategies 3 – Plan

I decided long ago to celebrate the members of my family to the best of my ability each time their birthdays came around. By default, I have those dates on my vacation plan every year. For the kids, the little things matter. Having mummy do almost everything for them is part of the pleasures of their special day. 'Mummy, I want you to bath me and dress me up...

Success Strategies 2 – Negotiate

My little one is a professional at saying exactly what he wants and he often insists on getting it. He'll specify the cup you should use and how full it should be when you prepare him a chocolate drink. He'll say the outfit he wants to put on for his birthday and will even negotiate his schedule - Mummy, please can I play one game first, then write one to fifty, then go outside and ride my bicycle before I come back and finish my homework? I grant his requests as often as they are reasonable and have no negative consequence. Right now as I write, he's asking to keep playing with his...

Success Strategies

I watched a leader give an account of his organization's achievements over the past year. He said everything without referring to a document. He had the figures for the key performance indicators logged in his memory and I thought that was impressive. He went further to explain the origin of the ideas that became the vision and goals his entire team ran with until every single one was accomplished and at the end of the event, he happened to share with a small group I was part of a new vision which should be realized sometime next year. Amazing! So I deciphered the pattern - this leader spends time in prayer/meditation, receives divine direction/instruction/ideas,...

Husband Material 3 – Watch!

Don't ignore the signs More often than not, the signs are there to help you tell what kind of person you're dealing with. In fact, if you pay attention, you can predict how they'll likely respond to certain events in the future. I believe this discovery of a person's tendencies, likes, dislikes, habits, values and general behavior is more effective when they have their guard down. You need the person to be himself or herself as much as possible. Conscious of this fact, I paid attention to Kingsley. I watched him while we were out with our group of friends and while we were at Church. He was still in focus while we were...

Husband material 2 – Intelligence

Intelligence Another item on my list was intelligence because I wanted to be completely understood by my spouse. For this reason, one of my goals was to ensure, before saying 'Yes' to a prospect, that we weren't too far apart on the intelligence scale. For me, tall, dark and handsome wasn't enough so I was on the lookout for brain matter. I believed there had to be more than just good looks to make a relationship work. Avoid Shame in the Future I had heard about a few embarrassing accounts that happened because of huge IQ gaps between couples and I didn't want to experience such. If we were out with friends or colleagues, I...

Husband material – 1

Birthday One beautiful evening, I sat by my window and discussed with all the people who came to see me. It was my birthday and as expected, I had several guests. I typically hosted my female friends inside my hostel but guys were not allowed because of the religious beliefs in that part of the country. As a result, a young lady sitting at the corner of the room and talking to someone on the other side of the window wasn’t a strange sight at all. It was part of the process in testing if your prospect was 'husband material'. Three People I hoped a few people would come by. In fact, I hoped three...
