Jesus Is Lord Service

Jesus Is Lord Service. We call it JILS for short. It’s quite an interesting service that holds about three times a year at the City of David, Eket.

We all take time to prepare… fasting and prayer for sure… and other instructions as God directs. The testimonies are simply amazing.

One lady who attended the JILS of March 2017 shared her testimony today, June 25, 2017. Her son had been afflicted by asthma for a while. During the service, the Pastor mentioned her son’s case amongst other cases. They were all to meet him during the prayer session but being her first time at COD, she didn’t know where the Children’s Church was. She thought – Jesus is everywhere – so she asked Him to locate her son where he was and heal him. From that day till now, they have not had any episode.

Her testimony reminds me of the centurion who met Jesus about his paralyzed servant and when Jesus asked ‘Shall I come and heal him?’, he said ‘Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed’. Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go, let it be done just as you believed it would’, and it’s recorded that his servant was healed at that moment. Awesome! Great faith. Great God!

There were more testimonies – healings, supernatural provision, scholarships, and so on.

Miracles still happen.

Have faith. Dare to believe God for a miracle when you need one and if you happen to be in or around Eket during the next JILS, join us.

Right now, you can take your troubles to the Lord in prayer, ask specifically in the name of Jesus, and believe that He will meet your need. He actually gave a personal invitation in Matthew 7:7 & 8 – ‘Ask and it will be given to you… For everyone who asks receives….’

Go ahead, ASK!

Making the Most

Moving to Eket was quite an event in my family’s life. If this had happened three years ago, I think I would have been devastated but certain happenings brought me to a place where I felt like I could pull up my anchors, sail to a new location, set them down again and totally have a blast.

The other day, someone asked what I would say to people in Lagos who were considering a move to Eket.  At that, I went on about the variety of fish we have here, cheaper accommodation, lower school fees, cleaner and fresher air, reduced cost for sports facilities, fresher fruits and vegetables, and so on. Seriously, you can’t beat the taste of the banana in Akwa Ibom State. It’s simply delicious.

Gele

Gele – Yoruba (Nigeria) word for female head wraps

But my response would have been incomplete if I didn’t mention TRAFFIC. On the average day, there is ZERO traffic in Eket! So you can confidently say ‘I’ll be there in fifteen minutes’ and actually be there in fifteen minutes. Making a statement like that in Lagos is tantamount to jeopardizing your integrity because you just never know the type of traffic you’ll face around the corner. It could be the type that ties wrapper, complete with gele and sun glasses (as our on air personalities on Wazobia FM describe very serious Lagos traffic).

One more thing – just like we have breaks, weekends, time-outs, holidays, and so on, you can factor in getaways from Eket to anywhere you desire to satisfy other longings that you may not yet have the means for in Eket. After all, with the lower cost of living, you can save more for such endeavours.

So, this is me. How about you? Are you facing any major change in your life? It is important for you to stay happy and fulfilled through your transition and after you’ve settled into your new normal. Identify all the blessings and benefits in your life today and make the most of them. You’ll be amazed at what you discover.

Watch & Learn

I thought I heard a truck approach but by the time the large drops began to drum on my roof, I realized it was a heavy downpour; heavy and abrupt. I say so because in about five minutes from the time it started, this amazing rainfall ended. I mean it just stopped. It was so fast, you couldn’t have made it out in time to save your clothes if you had them spread outside to dry, or to position your drums if you rely on the rainfall for potable water.

I hear showers like this happen every now and then in this pleasant city called Eket, and as this was my first experience, it left me wondering.

How would life be if opportunities showed up this way?

The notification would come to you only a few seconds in advance and the opportunity would linger for just a few minutes. If you weren’t prepared in advance, you would begin to go about, trying to put things in place to enable you take advantage of the opportunity, but you’ll end up missing it because it wouldn’t last long enough. But you can be sure that you would find some people who have learned to live ready.

We may have different opinions about how long opportunities linger in reality, but I’m grateful that we can learn from the experiences of those who have travelled these paths before us and be better able to anticipate opportunities and be prepared for them when they show up. A good thing to do everyday therefore would be to watch and learn from the people you consider more experienced in your area of endeavour.

Look at your life today and realize that you are living in the reality of opportunities that you took advantage of. While they linger, make the most of them. Enjoy your children and take time to bond with them while they’re still in your care. Enjoy your work, even the challenging days, and get better with every problem you solve. Enjoy and grow your business. Enjoy the people that come your way and build valuable networks. Enjoy life and enjoy today. Before you know it, it’ll be tomorrow.
