Margaret Adegoke 1Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Friend, Mentor… She was many things to many people and our perspectives as we look back today, March 14, 2016, to celebrate her life are several.

She often had a smile on her face and she loved to laugh. Hers was a gentle soul indeed. There was no room for contention, grudges or hatred in there. I can still see that peaceful glow about her. She loved to converse with her friends and family. It was always fun to have her around.

She loved God without diplomacy. She didn’t care what anyone thought about it. That relationship was her spur, her juice, and the source of her daily high. Often she sat with her face turned to the wall, as though she were putting everything else behind her, allowing the things that matter to fade into insignificance as she focused on her Creator. She would sing and pray and sing and pray.

She deeply loved and respected her husband. You could still see the twinkle in her eyes every time he walked in; you would have thought the fire of their love had only been recently ignited.

Here’s what we have to say about Margaret, 10 years on:

Margaret Adegoke was one of kind – kind, funny and mischievous. It’s difficult to describe her in a few words but I must say it was a real pleasure knowing her. She sought peace with all her heart and she would remind me ‘Do not let the sun go down on your anger’. She lived by the Word of God and was always forgiving. Her simplicity and humility were admirable and I still wonder why she had to leave us. I guess she has done her part and we have to work out our own salvation. We miss you Maggie and I know we would have had more fun if you were still around. Nse

…it still feels like yesterday. Maggi held Sunday School lessons for my friends and I, and kept telling us that this life is “all about Jesus”. That’s what she believed. My friend and I travelled from school to Port Harcourt to see her with only a vague knowledge of her address but after describing who we were looking for to her neighbours, we found that they knew her as ‘the lively, happy, gentle and caring girl that just moved in’.

…What gives me joy about her now is that I know she smiles down from heaven having seen with her eyes that she was right, it truly is all about Jesus. Smile on Meg, I’m happy for your life and of course, I miss you still…. Ini

My darling, darling, Sis. Can anyone resist your charm, beauty (both in and out), kind heart, sweet nature and most of all your jokes? I see you in my dreams almost everyday. I miss you, we miss you. Rest in peace Maggie, God loves you. Usoro

Maggie was simply easy going and friendly. Who wouldn’t want an older sister like her? Eky

To me, Maggi travelled to a country far away where she is very comfortable. Being the closest sibling to me, I miss the conversations and deep discussions we had from our childhood days till she travelled. The good thing is that she left behind someone to remind us of the way she laughs, talks, counsels and cracks jokes. She will always be alive and remembered as long as I live. I miss you, Maggie. Imo

Hi, Maggie. Today we remember you for who you were. Your embodiment of beauty radiated through your whole existence. You were fun to be with because you always did or said something that would cause laughter…. You loved your siblings and you were God’s partner. You were very industrious, humble & kind. We love you a lot. It is not possible to exhaust your good qualities but it is good to know that you are missed & loved. Jesus loves you. Mum

Margaret Adegoke 2It is just like yesterday! Time indeed is timeless with God who gives grace to love. Ten years is just like ten days – so long and yet feels so short. Maggi, your memory is timeless. Your warmth, the lives you touched, the tears you wiped away and the smile you put on people’s faces still testify. The grace that attended your life and the faith that you lived for, even when death came calling on that fateful Tuesday at exactly 11:15am, impress your memory on the sands of time. We loved you dearly, but our God loves you even the more.

So many joyous things have happened to all of us in the space of ten years. We all have grown in leaps and bounds. We have increased in size and in number. These all show that God didn’t stop showering His mercy upon us. We are poised to keep on going on this journey to life knowing that one day we shall meet again and this time to part no more. You are indeed a saint that once lived with us and has joined the cloud of witnesses cheering us on to glory knowing that ‘they without us cannot be made perfect’. Bayo

Wow! Such wonderful things said about one person. Margaret’s legacy is one of love, passion and devotion. How about you? What legacy will you leave?

The interesting thing is that there’s something more important than what people say about you, and that is what your Creator will say about you when you stand before Him on that day of judgement. I pray we live each day such that we’ll hear Him say to each one of us, ‘Well done, good and faithful friend. Enter into My rest’.
